At hummel International, we aim to sponsor teams that embody the spirit of sports. The Afghanistan national football teams demonstrate qualities worth recognising: They go beyond and above in order to play the game they love.
During the Taliban rule, football was prohibited and athletes were executed in the national stadium. When the regime fell, the opportunity for men and women to pursue their passion for football arose. Although it is still a dangerous hobby, football is growing in popularity. At hummel, we consider football a central part of the developing community, supporting a sustainable future in Afghanistan.
In June 2010 hummel signed a sponsorship agreement with the men's and women's national football teams in Afghanistan. Currently ranked respectively 190th and 130th by FIFA the Afghanistan men’s team and the women’s team are not likely to win the world cup trophy any time soon. Instead of focusing merely on results, we consider their dedication to football among one of the characteristics that harmonize with hummel’s values. They have great spirit and they are genuine hummel characters.
