LACTOSAN-SANOVO INGREDIENTS GROUP & SANOVO TECHNOLOGY GROUP

SANOVO TECHNOLOGY GROUP and LACTOSAN-SANOVO INGREDIENTS GROUP have joined forces to use their industry knowledge about egg ingredients and egg processing to support the Heart for Africa foundation and their Egg Farm Canaan in Swaziland.

Heart for Africa is a humanitarian organization focusing on the areas of hunger, orphans, poverty and education in Swaziland. The organization brought hope to the region with its large-scale farming project, a growing 2,500 acre multi-commodity farm and community that provides care and education to orphaned children, training and employment to the families in the region, and a sustainable source of nutritious food for many.

The egg laying operation at Project Canaan farm provides fresh cooked eggs for all the children living on the Project Canaan farm, and also helps thousands of people by providing high-quality, locally produced protein, essential for human growth and development. The eggs functions as a supplement to a feeding program that delivers 74,000 hand-packed meals every month to rural areas through a network of 30 churches.

SANOVO TECHNOLOGY GROUP have together with employees and suppliers donated a complete boiling and cooling machine to the farm. The machine is specially designed by SANOVO engineers in order to accommodate local conditions and the entire operation is supported by solar energy. See the development of the machine in this video.

LACTOSAN-SANOVO INGREDIENTS GROUP also take an active part of spreading karma with eggs. Through the newly established consumer brand, MÄT, they donate 1 egg to the project for each MÄT bar sold, feeding even more of the children on the Project Canaan farm.

Official Opening

On June 24th, Heart for Africa had invited partners from all over the world, including THORNICO, to the official opening of the Egg Barns on Project Canaan. Celebrating the opening with great speeches, dance performances by the children in Project Canaan as well as traditional Swazi dances by two dance groups.

At the opening, the Minister of Health and the Minister of Agriculture in Swaziland joined church bishops and pastors, doctors, chiefs from surrounding communities and international visitors to celebrate the opening. THORNICO was represented by Ci Eshel, Chief Karma Officer in THORNICO and Vicky Engsted, Group Marketing Manager at SANOVO TECHNOLOGY GROUP.

Following the opening ceremony, visitors were given a tour around the egg barns, where SANOVO’s customized machine was also introduced and demonstrated.

Below are a few words that Ian Maxwell, co-founder and CEO spoke as he presented some interesting statistics from the first six months of egg distribution.

“Today we have 2,500 laying chickens in the barn to your right behind this building and on July 7th we will receive our second flock of 2,500 to go in to the barn to your left.  I want us all to understand that we are producing 2,200 eggs every day and ALL of those eggs are for distribution to orphaned and vulnerable children in the most rural areas of Swaziland. They are also being distributed in partnership with the Social Welfare department and we are excited to announce our partnership with the work that Dr. Pawelos is doing with malnourished children at RFM Hospital.  We will be providing an egg a day to each child in the paediatric ward to help ensure that every child gets that perfect protein every day.”

Chicken Farms

Chicken Farms in Malawi

With the hope to help the Malawian people, SANOVO TECHNOLOGY GROUP initiated an innovative project in 2007 that aimed at combining the companies’ knowledge with the main hand power of agriculture in Malawi, the Malawian women. LACTOSAN-SANOVO Ingredients joined the project in 2012.

In cooperation with DanChurchAid, the project set out to increase women’s income by providing them with hens for egg production and subsequent sale to local markets and institutions. So far, four villages in central Malawi have participated in the project, developing an economic empowerment of women in their households, a reduction of women battering and nutritional improvements.

The project was implemented by the local partner, the Evangelical Lutheran Development Service (ELDS), and included the supply of chickens, a proper supply of feed, vaccines for the chickens, and cement for the construction of fowl houses, besides important information, training and education.

The participants of the project are still struggling against the unstable weather, which threatens their production of chicken feed, and recent years’ devaluation of the kwacha (the Malawian currency) has eaten into their savings. Nevertheless, the Malawian women included in the project have all been pleased with the results and the impact it has had on their situation, the self-reliance and hope it has planted, and the benefits their families are reaping.

WAWCAS

In 2015 we have decided in cooperation with WAWCAS, to send lamps to the earth quake affected Nepal. We worked together with WAWCAS (www.wawcas.com) on providing women in one of the affected areas with 1,000 solar lamps. The women are given the opportunity to develop and run their own businesses and cooperatives and at the same time secure their childrens education.

The areas are without electricity and therefore also without much needed light. The light is not only a necessity in the sense that it is needed for practical reasons but also in order for the children to be able to read and do homework again. Light is a way of regaining some of what was lost in pursuit of life as it used to be.

We will follow the situation closely and hopefully within short time be able to give you a possive story on the great impact the lamps have done in Nepal.

WHAT IS WAWCAS:

WAWCAS International is operated as a non-profit organisation. Through WAWCAS’ 16 month educational entrepreneurship programme we support Nepalese women living in poverty to develop and run their own businesses and cooperatives. The women have the opportunity to obtain small loans to start and develop the businesses and experience from the project shows that the women repay the loans as agreed. WAWCAS’ professional team in Nepal supports the women by means of education and supervision both before and after the establishment of the small businesses.

WAWCAS stands for Women At Work, Children At School. Consequently, the children of the women involved are an essential part of the WAWCAS programme. Therefore, it is required that the women’s children must attend school from the day the women enter into the programme. The women’s new source of income enables the children to go to good schools. WAWCAS supports the women in understanding the importance of their children’s education and for the children to have time for both school and leisure with room for play.
