At the European Men’s Handball Championship in Serbia in January 2012, the unique ‘Rebel Karma’ shoe by hummel was worn for the first time by many of the players. The players were supporting hummel’s Karma United campaign which focuses on helping those in need.

The players who wore hummel’s Karma Rebel shoe at the European Championships fought for the Championship trophy, but also for collecting karma points for charity. Every time a player wearing the hummel shoes scored a goal, hummel donated a ‘Karma Kit’.The ‘Karma Kit’ consists of a bag containing a football, a handball, a ball pump and training vests.

The ‘Karma Kit’ aims at bringing the joy of sports to disadvantaged children. The handball players could support a charity of their own choice – e.g. sports academies in Sierra Leone or elsewhere.

At hummel we believe that sport can make a difference and we therefore want to support projects that use sports to break down barriers and create a basis for unity and friendship. This mindset is the essence of our Karma United campaign. We hope to be able to donate Karma Kit bags at a total value of DKK 1 million – and, more importantly, to see lots of excited and passionate children and young people who will find it easier to do sports.

Consumers can also support the Karma United campaign. If you buy a pair of Karma Rebel, hummel will be donating 20% of the retail price to mobile football fields in Sierra Leone where there is a lot of sports passion, but very few sports facilities.

The shoe will be marketed in four styles in Serbia, Germany and France in February in 2012 and in Denmark later in the year.
