The home of blood diamonds still bears the scars of years of civil war. Being one of the poorest countries in the world, Sierra Leone has a very tragic history and very depressing statistics.
In 2008 hummel decided to sponsor the national football team of Sierra Leone and in 2010 hummel opened a football school where the national-team players act as role models and trainers. Together with partner organizations hummel also arranges football matches in villages and districts were the wounds from the civil war are still visible.By facilitating school activities, community gatherings and donating footballs, hummel contributes to the creation of peaceful societies where children can exercise their right to play and nurture friendship with football as a tool.

The Sierre Leone National Football Team, The Leone Allstars, have never qualified for the World Cup. But since 2005 the team have climbed from 163 on the FIFA ranking to number 63.
