With “Thorco Africa” Thorco Shipping has become one of the first shipping companies in the world to link charity directly to profits earned through a specific vessel.

Red Cross will receive a percentage of all “Thorco Africa’s” earnings, a guaranteed minimum of EUR 22,500 per year. In addition to the direct share of the profits, Thorco Shipping and the Red Cross have entered into an agreement which opens up the possibility of using ”Thorco Africa” for the transportation of aid cargo to Africa or for hosting events in aid of Africa.

Christian Stadil elaborates”: “The ship will, among other things, earn money being in the Africa trade, and by giving a share of this money to the Red Cross we can help ensure that part of the earnings go towards developing projects in Africa.”

The ambassador and mother of the ship is one of Japan’s best known actresses, Koyuki Kato, who is among other things known from the movie ”The Last Samurai” in which she played Tom Cruise’s girlfriend.
