It will be a historic day, when the Danish national football team on August 4th, 2016 will play their first Olympic game against Iraq. Historic, because Denmark has not been participating in the football tournament at the Olympics since 1992, but also historic because they once again after 12 years will be playing hummel jerseys – and what a jersey!
The specially designed Olympics jerseys are developed in a clean design with discrete references to the Danish flag. At the same time, hummel’s designers have been mindful to the special Olympics regulations to logos and design, which means that the jersey, among other things, will be without hummel’s iconic chevrons.
Historic collaboration Kick-off
At the same time, the new Olympics national team jersey kicks off the historic collaboration between the Danish Football Association (DBU) and hummel, which officially starts on august 1st. The collaboration runs until 2024 and covers all 15 national teams (adult and youth) as well as clothes for football schools and other DBU activities. Later this summer, the ‘regular’ national team jerseys for both the men’s and women’s teams will be introduced.
From 1979 to 2004, hummel was the official team kit sponsor of DBU, and have thus created the unique jerseys used by the Danish Dynamite boys in the mid 80’s and when Denmark won the European Championship in 1992. After a 12 years break, hummel and DBU are united again focusing on their great history together to support tomorrow’s talents.
An Olympic Jersey
“The Olympics is a giant event and we are happy to once again be part of the Danish national team, who will get a very unique jersey for this special occasion”, Morten Lund, Nordic Marketing Manager in hummel elaborates.
The new Olympics jersey was presented and a press conference July 18th, where the national team coach for the Olympics, Niels Frederiksen, also introduced the team. You can buy the special jersey on sportsmaster.dk and unisport.dk.
