Across the world, violence against women and girls remains one of the most serious—and the most tolerated—human rights violations, both a cause and a consequence of gender inequality and discrimination. On the 25th of November, UN Women and Secretary-General of UN, Ban Ki-moon, initiated a global campaign to ‘UNiTE to end Violence against Women’ by inviting everyone to color the world orange as a symbol of a better and brighter future for all the women in the world.
As a part of this campaign, world famous landmarks, monuments and buildings like Niagara Falls, Cristo Redentor and the archeological site in Petra turn orange. In Denmark, Thornico partnered up with the Nordic UN Women office and the private organization, Danner, that works to promote respect and equal opportunities between genders. Together we shrouded Denmark’s famous Little Mermaid in the warm and positive color of orange, which goes hand in hand with our Company Karma philosophy.
Thornico is happy to be part of this partnership and create awareness about the important cause of giving a voice to the women in the world, who are victims of abuse, violence and harassment based solely on their gender. Through our Company Karma projects, we have in Thornico first handedly experienced the great and positive difference giving a voice and power to these women can make, and we hope that we can help promote respect, equality and not least safety to the women in the world.
