OVODAN BIOTECH A/S was established in 2011. It was THORNICO’s wish to explore the biotech future, opportunities and potentials within layers of eggs. Therefore, OVODAN BIOTECH A/S was established as a company under LACTOSAN-SANOVO Ingredients Group. The office and laboratory facilities are at Havnegade 36, Odense, Denmark (red. also the HQ of OVODAN EGG GROUP).
The basic idea behind OVODAN BIOTECH`s activities is an Antibody Bank, to serve the market, being universities and pharmaceutical companies for research related antibodies. The long-term vision is to develop a system which can produce a specific antibody in one day in a so-called 3-in-1 solution: quickly, cheaply and in the right quality. This is unique in this field of research, where it could previously take several months to get the antibodies.
Together with two institutes at the Copenhagen University OVODAN BIOTECH applied for financial support to the project “Antibody Bank” in the spring of 2013. In May we received the approval of the project with considerable financial backing. The project started 1st September and is well under way. It is expected to last 2 years. The work to build a network of international partners started Q4 2013.
In addition to these activities , we have been working on a project to treat diarrhea in piglets. The issue is that a very large number of piglets die of diarrhea when they are removed from the sow and are subjected to solid food. This has enormous economic consequences. OVODAN BIOTECH A/S , in collaboration with Aarhus University and Knowledge Centre for Pig Production, is working on a grant for this project. This project may have some interesting spin-off effects in other animals, such as chickens and cattle.
Other exciting initiatives are being prepared, for example, the production of bulk antibodies in the diagnostic industry in which antibodies produced in chickens have a clear advantage.
OVODAN BIOTECH will also offer to produce specific antibodies in quantities to meet customer requirements.It will also be possible to produce antibodies that can be added to various foods such as dairy products like yoghurt. There is a very exciting future for the actions that have already been taken, and there are even more opportunities going forward.
