Everton and hummel reveal 2021/22 away kit

Besides taking advantage of hummel’s ZEROH2O dry-dye technology, Everton is becoming the first club to use hummel’s ECO8 technology.

Everton and hummel reveal 2021/22 away kit

In THORNICO, we are excited to reveal the 2021/22 Everton hummel away kit inspired by the Everton team of 1881/82 – nicknamed ‘The Black Watch’.

The authentic nod to the ‘Black Watch’ kit of 1881/82 – the third season of Everton’s existence – comes following fan calls for the revered strip to be replicated and to celebrate the Club’s role as a pillar of the community for more than 140 years. The original strip was worn for home matches – then a series of friendlies and local cup fixtures played on Stanley Park – with Everton not adopting its famous royal blue colours until a decade later in 1901.

To ensure a design that is a true reflection of the original, hummel has broken with tradition, their famous chevrons and logo being a tonal grey, rather than the iconic white.

Using hummel’s ECO8 technology

As part of the Everton for Change initiative – the Club’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and raising sustainability awareness – Everton’s home, away and third kits for the 2021/22 season will become the first club to use hummel’s ECO8 technology, meaning each shirt is manufactured from high-performing polyester produced from up to eight recycled plastic bottles.

The kits will also feature hummel’s ZEROH2O dry-dye technology, a ground-breaking process that ensures there is zero water consumption, zero wastewater and a 50 per cent reduction in energy consumption during the dying phase of production.

Alan McTavish, Commercial Director at Everton, said:

We are excited to be launching the first of three new kits on the back of what was a fantastic first year of our partnership with hummel.

Last year's campaign celebrated the strong bond between the football club and our diverse fan base and, once again, hummel has demonstrated its understanding of Everton and Evertonians with a kit that pays homage to our very beginnings.

Boasting a classic collar with rib inserts, the new away shirt balances retro and modern styles, offering a comfortable fit for players and fans alike.

Allan Vad Nielsen, hummel’s CEO said:

We are so proud of our association with Everton Football Club and of everything that was achieved in the first 12 months of our technical partnership. Like last year, we wanted to produce a kit that would resonate with fans and be truly, authentically Everton.

Going back to the Club's earliest years and taking our inspiration from something as iconic as the 'Black Watch' kit to illustrate the longevity and togetherness of the Everton Family just made sense. We hope Evertonians enjoy this kit and we look forward to seeing them back in the stands, wearing the new colours, celebrating victories as one.

All three 2021/22 kits will be part of Everton and hummel’s #AsOne campaign, which will recognise the togetherness of the Club’s fan base and build excitement for the expected return of supporters to stadiums in significant numbers next term.
